Job description

ICBA is an international Research and Development center with a mission to work in partnership to deliver agricultural and water scarcity solutions in marginal environments. It is committed to help water-scarce countries to improve the total productivity, social equity and environmental sustainability of water resources use in agriculture and others through an integrated system approach in marginal water, food and feed production systems, and in development of technology transfer and extension programs. 

ICBA has joined the CGIAR-CAC Program in 2005 with the aim to contribute to the Program’s activities dealing with land degradation and improving the quality of water resources affected by salinity in the region. 

We are seeking a post doc (PhD) candidature  with relevant experience and ability to assist in implementation of ICBA projects  aiming at increasing productivity of marginal lands (mostly affected by salinity), sustainability of Drylands ecosystems, food security and incomes of rural communities.

Job Description:

Post doc person will mainly be responsible for the execution and follow-up of the ICBA funded projects: i).  on 'Sustainable food production on marginal saline lands in Aral and Caspian seas

Basins'; ii). ‘Cross-regional Partnerships for improving Food and Nutritional Security in Marginal Environments of Central Asia’   under the guidance of Dr. Kristina Toderich, ICBA-CAC Representative.

Conduct baseline study to assess current pastures vegetation, soil, water and plant status at selected sites in Karauzyak (Uzbekistan) and Kazalinsk (Kazakhstan) sub-sites; Data management and reporting 

Develop options for scaling up appropriate technological, institutional and policy packages for  marginal environments throughout the CAC target countries 

Prepare technical and research reports; brochures; writing journal articles; 

Submitting own proposals

Higher education degree

Scientific degree:

PhD in biological and agronomy sciences; hydrology and computer science might be considered


Well English (especially writing); computer programs; good statistics ;mapping; Experience of working with rural communities on natural resources management and  agriculture  development on problematic environments is an advantage
